The made-to-measure wedding suit.
A wedding suit isn't a costume for one day. It's the garment you'll appear in on most of the photographs of your life. This guide shows which fabric suits which season, how much time to allow, and how to coordinate the suit with the ceremony, colour scheme and bride.
Fabric choice
The right fabric for every season.
The fabric determines how the suit drapes, how warm it is, and how it looks after eight hours of celebration. The atelier offers over 2000 fabrics from our partners Scabal, Reda 1865, Drago and Drapers.
Spring
Wool around 260–300g, ideally with a fine texture. Light blue, sage green or medium grey suit outdoor ceremonies and a bright floral palette.
Summer
High-twist wool, wool-linen or wool-silk around 240–280g. These qualities stay airy, crease in a controlled way and hold their shape even at 30 degrees. Beige, sand and light blue look effortless without being ordinary.
Autumn
A little more weight: 300–340g, ideally flannel or wool with a soft handle. Deep blue, tobacco and forest tones suit the golden light of the season.
Winter
340g and above, flannel or wool-cashmere. For formal evening celebrations, midnight blue and deep grey are the safe choice — tuxedo details such as shawl collars and silk piping underline the occasion.
Timeline
When to start.
Production itself takes 4–5 weeks at DAMERAU SUITS. To allow fittings and finer details to happen without pressure, plan for three to four months.

3–4 months before · Initial consultation
Appointment at the atelier on Avenue de Tivoli 4 in Fribourg. We discuss the venue, time of day, colour scheme and your vision, and choose the fabric together.

3 months before · Measuring
Precise measurements and decisions on cut, lapel, lining, buttons and details such as a monogram or a lining in your colour.

6–10 weeks before · Production
Your suit is made. In this phase you choose shirt, shoes and accessories — we match them to the suit.

4 weeks before · Fitting
Fitting at the atelier. Length, waist and shoulder are finally adjusted here. Small corrections are built into the plan.

2 weeks before · Handover
Final fitting and handover. This leaves time for a photoshoot and a calm final week before the wedding.

Suit, bride and wedding theme.
Matched to the wedding dress
A dress in warm ivory tolerates beige, sand and blue tones better than a cool pure white, which harmonises better with grey and midnight blue. Bring a photo or a fabric swatch to the consultation.
Matched to the venue
Barn, vineyard or beach settings suit open, lighter tones and softer textures. Church, castle or evening receptions call for a clean line and darker colour.
Matched to the time of day
Morning and afternoon ceremonies suit lighter colours. If the celebration starts after 6pm, midnight blue or a tuxedo is the more fitting choice.
Matched to the groomsmen
The groom should stand out — through fabric, lapel or a fine detail, not a completely different colour palette. We're happy to plan groomsmen's suits alongside yours.

How early should I order my wedding suit?
Production itself takes 4–5 weeks with us. To leave room for fittings, alterations and accessories, we recommend your first appointment three to four months before the wedding.
Which fabric suits a summer wedding?
Light wool around 240–280g, wool-linen or high-twist qualities. They stay airy, crease in a controlled way, and still look sharp after hours outdoors.
Which colour suits a wedding?
Midnight blue and mid blue look festive and photograph beautifully. Beige and sand tones suit summer and outdoor weddings, while deep grey or black suit formal evening celebrations.
Can I wear the wedding suit again afterwards?
Yes — that's exactly what we plan for. A calm colour palette and a clear line turn the wedding suit into a suit for business, gala evenings and invitations later on.
